Beijing to Host First China-Indonesia Joint Foreign and Defense Ministerial Dialogue

Beijing is set to host the inaugural China-Indonesia Joint Foreign and Defense Ministerial Dialogue on April 21, the Chinese Foreign Ministry announced on Friday.

Member of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee and Foreign Minister Wang Yi, along with Defense Minister Li Shangfu, will chair the meeting. Indonesia’s Foreign Minister Retno Marsudi and Defense Minister Prabowo Subianto are expected to attend.

Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Lin Jian highlighted that this is the first joint dialogue of its kind between China and Indonesia, reflecting the strategic importance and high level of cooperation between the two nations.

“This meeting will serve as a significant milestone in strengthening bilateral relations, political security, and defense cooperation,” Lin said during a regular news briefing.

The officials will exchange views on a range of topics, including international and regional cooperation, aiming to enhance mutual trust and strategic coordination.

“China is willing to work with Indonesia to follow the strategic guidance of our leaders, make good use of the dialogue mechanism, and promote the continuous advancement of friendship and mutual trust to a higher level,” Lin added.

This year marks a significant moment in China-Indonesia relations, further underscoring the importance of the upcoming dialogue.
