The China Public Diplomacy Association hosted an AI-themed salon on Wednesday, spotlighting the responsible integration of technology into education. The event featured a keynote speech by Lionel M. Ni, founding president of the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (Guangzhou), followed by an interactive session with journalists.
The forum highlighted how advanced AI models like DeepSeek are transforming knowledge acquisition and content creation. These systems can rapidly process vast amounts of information, generate high-quality summaries and research papers, and produce multimedia content such as images and videos, enabling users to create diverse materials on demand.
Ni emphasized the profound impact AI is having on the education sector. “The responsible use of AI within legal frameworks should be encouraged,” he stated, acknowledging the technology’s irreversible role in modern education. He urged higher education institutions to pay close attention to these developments.
At the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (Guangzhou), faculty members are encouraged to incorporate AI into their curricula, leveraging its capabilities to enhance teaching methods. “AI won’t replace humans, but professionals leveraging AI will outpace those who do not—this is inevitable,” Ni cautioned.
As AI continues to advance at a rapid pace, the event underscored the need for balanced approaches that harness the technology’s benefits while addressing fundamental concerns like computational efficiency and privacy safeguards. The discussion called for collaborative efforts to ensure AI’s positive impact on education and society at large.
