In the midst of Beijing’s towering skyscrapers and sleek glass facades of the Central Business District (CBD), a group of young hanfu enthusiasts gracefully walked through the modern cityscape. Clad in flowing mamianqun, or “horse-face skirts”, they blended the ancient elegance of traditional Chinese clothing with the hustle and bustle of urban life.
Traditional attire has always been a vibrant expression of China’s rich heritage, showcasing the nation’s etiquette, aesthetics, and way of life. Today, with the rise of “China chic”, a new generation is embracing hanfu culture, weaving history into contemporary fashion. From grand celebrations like weddings and graduations to everyday moments, these youths are reviving ancient styles and giving them a fresh, modern twist.
Ahead of May 4, China’s Youth Day, these hanfu lovers took to the streets of Beijing’s CBD, adding a touch of timeless charm to the city’s futuristic skyline. Their presence was a tribute to human innovation, imagination, and, most importantly, a deep respect for enduring culture.
They also shared their hopes and wishes for Youth Day, expressing their aspirations for the future and the importance of preserving cultural heritage.
