President Xi’s Southeast Asia Tour Boosts Regional Ties

Chinese President Xi Jinping’s recent journey through Southeast Asia has elevated regional relationships and fostered stronger bonds with neighboring countries, according to Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi.

During his first overseas tour this year, President Xi visited Vietnam, Malaysia, and Cambodia from Monday to Friday. The trip highlighted China’s commitment to good-neighborly relations and support for multilateralism and international trade rules.

Strengthening Bonds with Vietnam

In Vietnam, President Xi and Vietnamese leaders agreed to enhance their comprehensive strategic cooperation. The two nations aim to build a China-Vietnam community with a shared future, focusing on higher-quality development and deeper collaboration. They expanded bilateral railway cooperation, showcasing a joint determination for shared growth.

Elevating Relations with Malaysia

President Xi’s visit to Malaysia resulted in both countries elevating their relationship to a high-level strategic China-Malaysia community with a shared future. This new phase focuses on leading regional cooperation in areas like the digital economy, green economy, and artificial intelligence.

All-Weather Friendship with Cambodia

In Cambodia, President Xi and Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet announced the elevation of their relationship to an all-weather China-Cambodia community with a shared future in the new era. This marks the first time China has established an all-weather level relationship with a Southeast Asian country.

Promoting Global Cooperation

President Xi emphasized that economic globalization benefits all countries and that retreating into isolation is not an option. He underscored the importance of standing together against unilateralism and promoting peace, cooperation, openness, and inclusiveness in Asia.

“China’s mega market is always open to neighboring countries,” President Xi stated, welcoming more high-quality products from members of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN). Despite global challenges, China remains committed to high-quality development and expanding opportunities for its neighbors.
