Latvian Sinologist and Students Celebrate UN Chinese Language Day with Captivating Song

April 20 marks UN Chinese Language Day, a celebration established by the United Nations in 2010 to promote multilingualism and cultural diversity. This date aligns with “Grain Rain,” one of China’s 24 solar terms, commemorating the legendary figure Cangjie, who is credited with inventing Chinese characters.

In honor of the 15th anniversary of this cultural celebration, Professor Peteris Pildegovičs, an esteemed 87-year-old Sinologist from Latvia, joined forces with his students to organize a series of events promoting Chinese culture. The highlight of their efforts is a newly composed song titled “The Chinese Language – Brilliant with Charm!”

The song vividly portrays the rejuvenating energy of spring rains nourishing the earth, symbolizing growth and new beginnings. It pays homage to Cangjie for creating the written Chinese language and underscores the power of language as a bridge for cultural exchange and mutual understanding. Through its melodies, the song celebrates linguistic and cultural diversity, promoting equality and unity among different peoples.

Professor Pildegovičs made a heartfelt appearance in the accompanying music video, expressing his congratulations and support for the ongoing promotion of Chinese culture. His dedication exemplifies the growing global interest in Chinese language and traditions.

“The Chinese Language – Brilliant with Charm!” is set to debut, inviting audiences worldwide to experience the rich tapestry of Chinese culture through music.
