China Says It Opposes Any Tariff Deals at Expense of Own Interests

China Stands Firm Against Tariff Deals That Harm Its Interests

Beijing, China — China has declared that it will firmly oppose any trade deals made by the United States and its partners that come at the expense of Chinese interests. A spokesperson for the Ministry of Commerce stated on Monday that if such situations arise, China will not accept them and will take resolute countermeasures.

The spokesperson’s remarks come in response to reports that the United States is preparing to pressure other countries into restricting trade ties with China in exchange for tariff exemptions. Recently, the U.S. has been imposing tariffs on its trading partners while urging them to engage in so-called “reciprocal tariff” negotiations.

“Under the guise of ‘reciprocity,’ the United States is pursuing unilateral actions that undermine international economic and trade norms,” the spokesperson said. “Attempts to trade the interests of others for tariff exemptions are doomed to fail and will ultimately harm all parties involved.”

The spokesperson emphasized that China respects all parties seeking to resolve trade disputes through equal consultation. “We call on all nations to stand for fairness and justice, uphold international economic and trade rules, and support the multilateral trading system,” they added.

Highlighting the global impact of unilateralism and protectionism, the spokesperson noted, “No country can remain unaffected. Once international trade reverts to the law of the jungle, where the strong prey on the weak, all countries will suffer.”

China expressed readiness to work with all parties to strengthen solidarity and coordination. “We are committed to jointly opposing unilateral actions, safeguarding legitimate rights and interests, and upholding international fairness and justice,” the spokesperson concluded.
