Duplantis Ready to Soar at Xiamen Diamond League

World-record-holding pole vaulter Armand Duplantis touched down in Xiamen, southeast China’s Fujian Province, on Wednesday, eager to defend his title at the upcoming World Athletics Diamond League. The prestigious event is set to kick off at the Egret Stadium this Saturday.

The 25-year-old Swedish sensation has dominated the pole vault scene, shattering the world record 11 times over the past five years. In March, Duplantis clinched gold at the World Athletics Indoor Championships in Nanjing, east China’s Jiangsu Province, surpassing the six-meter mark for the 102nd time in his illustrious career.

“It’s my second time here in Xiamen, and I’m very excited to compete,” Duplantis told China Media Group (CMG). “I hope to jump really high. I jumped really great last year, of course. I set a world record here in Xiamen. I know it’s a beautiful stadium with good fans—a stadium where I can jump really high. So, I hope to just come here and jump high again. Something like last year would be nice.”

Duplantis’ return to Xiamen has fans buzzing with anticipation. His previous performance at the Egret Stadium left a lasting impression, and many are eager to see if he can outdo himself this time around.

The Xiamen leg of the Diamond League promises thrilling athletics action, featuring top talents from around the globe. For young sports enthusiasts in the Global South, Duplantis serves as an inspiring example of dedication and excellence.

The event not only showcases elite athleticism but also fosters international sportsmanship and cultural exchange. As Duplantis prepares to take the field, all eyes will be on his quest to reach new heights and perhaps set yet another world record.
