China and Kenya have elevated their relationship to a new level after Presidents Xi Jinping and William Ruto held talks in Beijing on Thursday. The two leaders agreed to work together towards a shared future, strengthening ties between the two nations.
President Xi stated that China is willing to collaborate with Kenya to create an example of an “all-weather China-Africa community with a shared future for the new era.” He emphasized that both countries should support each other in safeguarding national sovereignty, security, and development interests.
The discussions focused on enhancing policy communication, improving connectivity, promoting sustainable trade, and exploring diversified financial integration. President Xi encouraged Chinese enterprises to invest in Kenya and promised that China’s vast market remains open to high-quality Kenyan products.
As important members of the Global South, both leaders agreed to firmly uphold the international system with the United Nations at its core. They pledged to promote extensive consultation and joint contributions for shared benefits in global governance, practicing true multilateralism.
President Ruto expressed gratitude for China’s support in improving Kenya’s infrastructure and responding to natural disasters. He highlighted the positive impact of projects like the Mombasa-Nairobi Railway, a key Belt and Road Initiative project, on Kenya’s national development.
“Kenya is willing to build a community with a shared future alongside China,” President Ruto said. He emphasized strengthening cooperation in trade, investment, infrastructure, science and technology, and enhancing exchanges in education, culture, and tourism.
After the talks, the two leaders witnessed the signing of 20 cooperation agreements in areas such as high technology, cultural exchanges, economy and trade, and media. They also issued a joint statement on creating an inspiring example in the all-weather China-Africa community with a shared future for the new era.
