China and the United States have not held any consultations or negotiations regarding tariffs, according to a spokesperson from China’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Speaking at a regular press conference on Thursday, spokesperson Guo Jiakun addressed reports suggesting talks between the two nations on tariff-related issues.
“As far as I understand it, China and the United States have not conducted consultations or negotiations on the tariff issue, let alone reached an agreement,” Guo said.
He emphasized that the tariff dispute was initiated by the U.S., and reiterated China’s consistent stance on the matter. “China is open to negotiation, but will also fight to the end if needed,” Guo stated. He added that any dialogue must be conducted on the basis of equality, respect, and mutual benefit.
