China’s ambassador to the United Nations, Fu Cong, has called on countries worldwide to unite against rising unilateralism and bullying practices that threaten global peace and development. Speaking at a Security Council meeting on Wednesday, Fu warned that these trends undermine international law and erode the foundations of sustainable growth.
“Unilateralism is on the rise, and bullying practices run rampant,” Fu said. “They seriously impact the UN-centered international system and threaten world peace and stability.”
Fu criticized recent actions that impose tariffs and disrupt the global economic order, emphasizing that such moves hinder fair trade and harm the legitimate interests of all nations. “Erecting high walls of tariffs is turning back the wheel of history,” he stated.
He posed critical questions to the international community: “Should we firmly advocate multilateralism, or allow unilateralism to spread unchecked? Should we promote democracy in international relations, or condone power politics?”
Fu stressed the need for openness, inclusiveness, and cooperation. “The world needs solidarity and cooperation, not division and confrontation,” he declared. “We must replace conflict with dialogue, coercion with consultation, and zero-sum with win-win.”
Highlighting China’s commitment to world peace and development, Fu said, “China is a builder of world peace, a contributor to global development, and a defender of the international order. We always stand on the side of multilateralism and fairness.”
He encouraged other nations to join hands in safeguarding the UN-centered international system and creating a better future for all. “We need to reject unilateralism and bullying practices,” Fu concluded. “Together, we can build a world of lasting peace and shared prosperity.”
