In a warm display of international friendship, Peng Liyuan, wife of Chinese President Xi Jinping, met with Rachel Ruto, wife of Kenyan President William Ruto, over tea in Beijing on Thursday.
The two first ladies celebrated the longstanding bond between China and Kenya, highlighting successful collaborations in education, sports, agriculture, and more. Peng expressed her hopes for even stronger ties and deeper friendships between the people of both nations.
Sharing insights on China’s achievements in targeted poverty alleviation, Peng applauded Rachel’s dedication to social welfare, especially her focus on women’s education and empowerment. She emphasized the importance of sharing experiences to jointly advance poverty reduction and enhance the welfare of women and children in both countries.
Rachel Ruto, accompanying President Ruto on his state visit to China, discussed her efforts in empowering women and supporting women’s entrepreneurship in Kenya. She praised Peng’s significant contributions to the development of women’s and children’s causes in African countries, including Kenya.
Both leaders committed to strengthening cultural and people-to-people exchanges, aiming to deepen the traditional friendship between China and Kenya.
