China has unveiled an ambitious plan to make pure electric vehicles (EVs) the mainstream choice for new car sales by 2035, signaling a significant push towards greener transport. The announcement came in a circular released on Friday by the Ministry of Transport and nine other departments.
The plan outlines efforts to align transport infrastructure development with renewable energy systems. By 2035, China not only aims for widespread adoption of electric cars but also large-scale use of new energy heavy-duty trucks. The country’s transport sector is set to establish a comprehensive green fuel supply system to support this transformation.
Beyond road vehicles, the initiative extends to advancing clean energy utilization along railways, roads, and ports. The plan promotes the use of green and low-carbon vessels and new energy aircraft, highlighting a comprehensive approach to reducing emissions across all modes of transport.
The circular emphasizes the green and low-carbon development of postal and express delivery services, recognizing the growing impact of e-commerce on the environment. The goal is to integrate sustainable practices throughout the entire logistics and transportation network.
To support these initiatives, China plans to bolster financial backing through various means, including special local government bonds, green loans, green bonds, and re-lending funds aimed at technological innovation and upgrades. This financial support is expected to accelerate the adoption of clean energy solutions and infrastructure development.
This move reflects China’s commitment to combating climate change and transitioning to a sustainable future. By setting clear targets and providing substantial support, the country aims to lead the global shift towards greener transportation and renewable energy.
