Volkswagen CEO: Competition from BYD Fuels Our Innovation

At the 2025 Shanghai Auto Show, Volkswagen Group CEO Oliver Blume highlighted the importance of competition and collaboration in China’s rapidly evolving auto market. “Having competitors like BYD challenges us to improve,” Blume told CGTN’s Wang Tianyu.

Blume emphasized that working with local players helps Volkswagen stay ahead in the game. “Collaboration with Chinese automakers and suppliers allows us to innovate and meet the unique demands of the Chinese market,” he said.

The CEO also shared his views on global trade challenges. “In today’s interconnected world, it’s essential to navigate trade complexities wisely. Our deepening ties with Chinese partners are crucial for mutual growth,” Blume noted.

China’s auto market is one of the most competitive in the world, with domestic brands like BYD making significant strides in electric vehicle technology. Volkswagen aims to leverage this environment to enhance its offerings and solidify its position in the market.

“We learn a lot from our competitors,” Blume admitted. “It’s about pushing boundaries and delivering the best experience to our customers.”
