The Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macao Bridge has witnessed a remarkable 70% increase in foreign passenger traffic compared to last year, with over 172,000 international travelers crossing the bridge as of Sunday, according to official data.
This surge is largely due to China’s expansion of visa-free policies, making travel more accessible for international visitors. The Zhuhai land port of the bridge stands out as the only land port on the Chinese mainland that offers direct road access to Hong Kong International Airport.
Overall, passenger trips across the bridge have risen by 18.9% year-on-year, exceeding 10 million and reaching this milestone 25 days earlier than in 2022. Trips made by residents of the Chinese mainland have increased by 30.3% to 4.18 million.
Cross-border trips through the Zhuhai land port by vehicles registered in Hong Kong and Macao have also jumped 32.4%, totaling nearly 1.2 million so far this year. The daily average of these trips now surpasses 10,000, as reported by the bridge’s border inspection station.
Spanning 55 kilometers, the Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macao Bridge connects Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (SAR), the city of Zhuhai in Guangdong Province, and the Macao SAR. It holds the title of the world’s longest bridge-and-tunnel sea crossing, significantly enhancing connectivity in the region.
