China’s Foreign Ministry has stated that there has been no recent phone call between President Xi Jinping and U.S. President Donald Trump. Speaking at a regular press briefing on Monday, spokesperson Guo Jiakun addressed reports suggesting that the two leaders had communicated.
“As far as I know, there have not been any calls between the two presidents recently,” Guo said. He further clarified that “China and the United States are not engaged in any consultation or negotiation on tariffs.”
The statement came in response to reports that President Trump told Time magazine that President Xi had called him. The spokesperson’s remarks aim to clear up any misunderstandings regarding communication between the two nations’ leaders.
