Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi joined leaders from Brazil, Russia, India, and South Africa on Monday at the BRICS Foreign Ministers’ Meeting in Rio de Janeiro. Wang, who is also a member of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China Central Committee, highlighted the importance of this year marking the 80th anniversary of the founding of the United Nations (UN).
“The founding of the UN opened a new chapter for all countries to jointly promote peace and seek development,” Wang stated. He emphasized that the international landscape is undergoing profound changes, presenting new and severe challenges to global peace and development. At this critical juncture, Wang noted, the future of humanity depends on countries making the right choices.
He called on BRICS nations to take the lead in promoting global peace and development, asserting that they are a positive and constructive force on the international stage. Brazilian Foreign Affairs Minister Mauro Vieira presided over the meeting, where all parties discussed the role of BRICS in enhancing peace and security worldwide.
