Chinese Mainland Slams Lai Ching tes two States Comments

Chinese Mainland Condemns Lai Ching-te’s ‘Two States’ Remarks

The Chinese mainland has sharply criticized Taiwan leader Lai Ching-te for his recent comments promoting the “two states” theory, labeling them a “blatant provocation.”

At a press conference on Wednesday, Zhu Fenglian, spokesperson for the State Council Taiwan Affairs Office, condemned Lai’s call for cross-strait engagement based on “parity and dignity.” She stated that such remarks are an attempt to alter the historical and legal reality that both sides of the Taiwan Strait belong to one China.

Zhu warned that denying the 1992 Consensus, opposing the one-China principle, and pursuing “Taiwan independence” would eliminate the foundation for cross-strait dialogue. She emphasized that any attempt to separate Taiwan from China is doomed to fail.

The Chinese mainland maintains that the 1992 Consensus, which embodies the one-China principle, is the political basis for peaceful development of cross-strait relations. Lai’s comments have been viewed as a challenge to this consensus.

The situation has heightened tensions across the strait, with observers concerned about the potential impact on regional stability. The Chinese mainland has reiterated its commitment to national sovereignty and territorial integrity.
