Brazilian President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva praised China’s “admirable” response to U.S.-imposed tariffs during a meeting with Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi in Brasilia on Wednesday. The two leaders discussed strengthening ties between their nations and advancing cooperation within the BRICS framework.
“China’s just actions have garnered broad support, while the irresponsible unilateral actions of certain countries deserve collective opposition,” Lula stated, emphasizing the importance of multilateralism and fair international trade practices.
Lula expressed Brazil’s readiness to work closely with China to enhance the BRICS mechanism, promote free trade, uphold international rules, and safeguard global peace. “Power politics shall not be allowed to override international justice,” he added.
The Brazilian president highlighted the solid mutual trust and deepening cooperation between Brazil and China, noting that their partnership sets a model for South-South cooperation. “Upholding friendship with China is the right choice,” Lula said.
Foreign Minister Wang Yi commended Lula’s commitment to strengthening the China-Brazil comprehensive strategic partnership, calling it a demonstration of strategic foresight aligned with the long-term interests of the Brazilian people.
“China’s firm countermeasures against unilateral bullying not only safeguard its legitimate rights and interests but also protect the common interests of developing nations and uphold international fairness and justice,” Wang remarked.
At this critical juncture in history, Wang emphasized China’s dedication to resilience and cooperation with BRICS and Global South countries. “China will remain committed to multilateralism, defend international rules, sow new seeds of hope for the world, and create fresh opportunities for peace,” he said.
