The Chinese Ministry of Commerce announced on Friday that it is evaluating potential trade talks with the United States. This comes after several high-ranking U.S. officials expressed a willingness to negotiate in hopes of easing ongoing trade tensions between the two nations.
In a statement responding to media inquiries, the ministry noted that the U.S. has recently sent messages through various channels indicating a desire for dialogue. “China is currently assessing the situation,” the ministry stated.
China emphasized its consistent stance on the matter. “We will fight if we must, but our doors are open if the U.S. wants to talk,” the ministry reiterated. The statement underscored that the trade conflict was initiated by the U.S., and for negotiations to proceed, the U.S. must show sincerity by correcting its wrongful practices and being prepared to cancel unilateral tariff hikes.
The ministry also acknowledged that the U.S. has hinted at possible adjustments to its tariff measures. However, it cautioned that any talks without a rollback of these measures would be perceived as insincere and could further harm mutual trust.
The ongoing trade dispute between the world’s two largest economies has had global repercussions, affecting markets and economies worldwide. Many are hopeful that constructive dialogue could lead to a resolution that benefits not only the U.S. and China but also the international community.
