China’s nuclear power capacity has soared, surpassing 120 million kilowatts in both operational and under-construction facilities, according to the National Energy Administration (NEA). This achievement marks a significant stride in the nation’s pursuit of clean and efficient energy sources.
\n\n\”China’s nuclear power development has always put safety first,\” said Zhang Xing, an official with the NEA. \”Our country has become one of the few in the world to possess a complete nuclear power industrial system. The technological level and comprehensive capabilities of China’s nuclear power sector have now entered the world’s advanced ranks.\”
\n\nIn 2022, China’s nuclear power plants generated 450.9 billion kilowatt-hours of electricity, a 3.7 percent increase from the previous year, accounting for 4.5 percent of the country’s total electricity production. This surge in nuclear energy usage effectively reduced the consumption of approximately 140 million tonnes of standard coal and cut about 370 million tonnes of carbon dioxide emissions, based on NEA data.
\n\nNotably, China’s nuclear power units have maintained an excellent safety record, with key performance indicators aligning with internationally advanced levels. These achievements underscore China’s commitment to expanding its clean energy portfolio while adhering to the highest safety standards.
