China’s May Day holiday box office revenue has surged past 700 million yuan (approximately $96 million) as of Monday afternoon, according to online film data tracking platforms. Leading the charge is Andrew Lau’s ‘The Dumpling Queen’, which has captured the hearts of audiences across the nation.

The five-day holiday, spanning from May 1 to 5, sees this fact-based drama starring the popular comedienne Ma Li topping the charts. ‘The Dumpling Queen’ tells the inspiring story of a street food vendor from Hong Kong who rises to become the founder of a well-known frozen food brand.
