Chinese President Xi Jinping is visiting Russia to commemorate the 80th anniversary of the victory in the World Anti-Fascist War. In a signed article published in a Russian newspaper, President Xi emphasized the importance of learning from history to build a brighter future.
President Xi recalled the shared sacrifices of the Chinese and Russian peoples during World War II. He highlighted the cooperation between the two nations, such as the Soviet Volunteer Group’s support in China’s resistance against Japanese aggression and China’s strategic assistance to the Soviet Union.
“The strong camaraderie between our two nations, forged in blood and sacrifice, surges onward unceasingly,” President Xi wrote. He stressed that unity and mutual support are essential in facing current global challenges like unilateralism and hegemonism.
He called for upholding the postwar international order, defending the authority of the United Nations, and resisting any attempts to distort the historical truth of WWII. President Xi also reaffirmed China’s sovereignty over Taiwan, emphasizing that its restoration is an integral part of the postwar international order.
President Xi praised the mutual support between China and Russia on issues concerning their core interests. He concluded by urging both nations to work together in safeguarding international fairness and justice, promoting global development, and building a community with a shared future for humanity.
