President Xi Jinping Visits Russia for 80th Anniversary of Great Patriotic War Victory

Chinese President Xi Jinping departed from Beijing on Wednesday for a state visit to Russia, where he will attend the 80th anniversary celebrations of the Soviet Union’s victory in the Great Patriotic War.

At the invitation of Russian President Vladimir Putin, President Xi’s visit highlights the strengthening ties between the Chinese mainland and Russia.

Accompanying President Xi are Cai Qi, a member of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee and director of the General Office of the CPC Central Committee, and Wang Yi, a member of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee and China’s foreign minister.

The Great Patriotic War, as it is known in Russia, marks the Soviet Union’s significant role in defeating Nazi Germany during World War II. The 80th anniversary is a momentous occasion that honors the sacrifices made and celebrates the enduring peace that followed.
