Chinese President Xi Jinping has published a signed article in a leading Russian newspaper ahead of his state visit to Russia, commemorating the 80th anniversary of the Victory in the Soviet Union’s Great Patriotic War. In his article, Xi emphasized the enduring friendship between China and Russia, forged during the World Anti-Fascist War.
Xi noted that the profound friendship built with blood and lives during the war has become an inexhaustible source of everlasting amity between the two nations. He expressed his intention to honor the past and pay tribute to the martyrs alongside the Russian people.
This year marks the 80th anniversary of several significant events: the Chinese People’s War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression, the Soviet Union’s Great Patriotic War, the World Anti-Fascist War, and the founding of the United Nations. Xi highlighted the shared history of China and Russia fighting side by side against fascism.
He warned that today, unilateralism, hegemony, and acts of bullying are causing severe harm, and humanity once again stands at a crossroads between unity and division, dialogue and confrontation, win-win and zero-sum outcomes.
Xi called on the world to take history as a mirror, draw wisdom from the profound lessons of World War II, oppose all forms of hegemonism and power politics, and work together to create a brighter future for humanity.
