The Chinese Embassy in the United States has announced that the forthcoming economic and trade meeting between China and the U.S., set to take place in Switzerland, was arranged at Washington’s request. Emphasizing its firm stance, China stated it will not compromise its principles to reach any agreement.
“The U.S. has actively reached out through various channels, expressing a desire to discuss issues such as tariffs,” a spokesperson for the embassy said. “After careful consideration, China agreed to engage in talks with the U.S. The talks were requested by the U.S.,” the spokesperson added.
The embassy voiced strong opposition to U.S. tariffs, asserting that China will steadfastly defend its legitimate rights and interests, uphold international fairness and justice, and safeguard the rules of the World Trade Organization and the multilateral trading system.
Reiterating that the tariff conflict was initiated by the U.S., the embassy urged Washington to cease its tactics of threats and pressure. “If the U.S. truly wishes to resolve the issue through dialogue and negotiation, it should stop threatening and pressuring, and engage in talks with China based on equality, respect, and mutual benefit,” the spokesperson emphasized.
“China will never accept the U.S. saying one thing and doing another, nor will it sacrifice its principles or international fairness and justice to reach any agreement,” the spokesperson concluded.
