China Issues Emergency Alerts as Severe Weather Looms

China has launched emergency responses and issued multiple alerts as severe weather conditions are set to hit several regions across the country.

The National Meteorological Center has released a blue alert for heavy rainfall and severe thunderstorms. Starting from 8 p.m. Wednesday to 8 p.m. Thursday, forecasts predict thunderstorms, strong winds, or hailstorms in parts of Inner Mongolia, Jilin, Liaoning, Hebei, Beijing, Shanxi, Anhui, Hubei, Chongqing, Guizhou, Hunan, and Jiangxi.

Some areas in Hunan, Jiangxi, Chongqing, and Guizhou are expected to experience powerful winds exceeding force 11 on the national wind scale, which means speeds over 28.5 meters per second.

The China Meteorological Administration has initiated a Level-III emergency response to address the upcoming meteorological disasters. China’s emergency response system ranks from Level I to Level IV, with Level I being the most severe.

Additionally, the Ministry of Water Resources and the China Meteorological Administration have issued a yellow alert for potential mountain torrents in parts of Anhui, Jiangxi, Henan, Hubei, and Hunan. A yellow alert for meteorological risks of geological disasters has also been announced for areas in Anhui, Guangdong, Guangxi, and Guizhou.

Local authorities are ramping up real-time monitoring, early warning systems, and evacuation plans. Residents in affected areas are advised to stay vigilant, follow official instructions, and prioritize safety.

China’s weather warning system uses four colors to indicate the severity of weather conditions: red for the most severe, followed by orange, yellow, and blue.
