China Russia Vow to Safeguard Authority of International Law

China and Russia Unite to Protect International Law

China and Russia have announced a new commitment to work together in safeguarding international law and order.

In a joint statement released on Thursday, the two nations pledged to enhance their cooperation to uphold the authority of international law. They emphasized the importance of maintaining the international system with the United Nations at its core and reinforcing the UN’s central role in global affairs.

“We are firmly committed to supporting a multipolar world,” the statement said. “We believe in just and equitable international relations that promote win-win cooperation and a community with a shared future for humanity.”

China and Russia reiterated their dedication to the principles outlined in the UN Charter and other fundamental international agreements. They stressed that all countries should have the right to choose their own political, economic, cultural, and social systems without external interference.

The two countries condemned unilateral military interventions that are not based on self-defense or authorized by UN Security Council resolutions. They also opposed unilateral sanctions and the practice of imposing one’s will on other nations under the guise of “rule of law” or a “rules-based order.”

“No country’s development model should be regarded as superior,” they stated. “We condemn efforts to forcibly change legitimate governments of other countries and advocate for the peaceful resolution of disputes.”

China and Russia called for greater efforts to strengthen arms control and disarmament, prevent the weaponization of outer space, and tackle global challenges such as climate change, plastic pollution, and cybercrime.

“We believe that cooperation and mutual respect are key to addressing the world’s pressing issues,” the statement concluded.
