BEIJING — In a significant move to meet growing demand, China has announced plans to offer vocational training to 1.5 million domestic service workers annually from 2025 to 2027. This initiative aims to equip both newcomers and current workers with a wide range of skills related to various occupations within the sector.
According to a notice released by the Ministry of Human Resources and Social Security and five other government organs, the extensive training is designed to professionalize the domestic service industry, promote high-quality employment, and satisfy public demand for domestic services.
To maximize the program’s effectiveness, authorities will conduct comprehensive assessments of jobseekers’ and workers’ training needs. This approach ensures that individuals receive tailored programs that enhance their abilities and meet specific market requirements.
The domestic service sector in China currently employs over 30 million professionals and comprises more than one million enterprises. The market size has exceeded 1.1 trillion yuan (about $152.58 billion), highlighting the industry’s significant role in the nation’s economy.
This initiative follows guidelines issued in April focusing on expanding and improving the quality of domestic services. The guidelines include steps to make services more accessible to consumers, enhance policy support, and optimize the consumption environment to boost overall domestic consumption.
By investing in vocational training, China is not only addressing immediate market needs but also fostering sustainable economic growth and improving the livelihoods of millions of its residents.
