Chinas Foreign Trade Up 56 Pct in April

China’s Foreign Trade Grows 5.6% in April, Boosted by Export Surge

Beijing, May 12 — China’s foreign trade witnessed a solid uptick in April, with total goods imports and exports rising 5.6% year on year, according to the latest data from the General Administration of Customs. The growth is a positive sign for the world’s second-largest economy as it continues to recover.

Exports led the way, increasing by a robust 9.3% to reach 2.27 trillion yuan (approximately $314 billion). This surge highlights the strong global demand for Chinese products, ranging from electronics to textiles.

Imports also saw a modest increase, edging up 0.8% to 1.57 trillion yuan. The slight rise in imports indicates a steady domestic demand within the Chinese mainland for overseas goods.

In the first four months of 2023, China’s total goods imports and exports expanded by 2.4% year on year, amounting to 14.14 trillion yuan. Exports during this period grew by 7.5% to 8.39 trillion yuan, while imports decreased by 4.2% to 5.75 trillion yuan.

The overall trade performance showcases China’s resilience amid global economic uncertainties. Analysts believe that supportive government policies and the stabilization of supply chains have contributed to this growth.

As the global economy navigates challenges, China’s trade figures may play a crucial role in bolstering international market confidence. The continued growth in exports, in particular, reflects the country’s significant role in global commerce.
