Xi Jinping and Slovakia’s Fico Pledge to Strengthen Strategic Partnership

Chinese President Xi Jinping declared that the strategic partnership between China and Slovakia has entered a “fast lane” since Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico’s visit to China last November.

Meeting on Friday during celebrations in Moscow commemorating the 80th anniversary of the victory in the Soviet Union’s Great Patriotic War, Xi and Fico discussed deepening their countries’ cooperation.

Xi emphasized that enhancing China-Slovakia relations serves the fundamental interests of both nations and aligns with the global trend of open cooperation and mutual benefit. He called for strengthening traditional friendship, high-level exchanges, and expanding mutually beneficial cooperation.

Both leaders expressed commitment to advancing the high-quality development of the Belt and Road Initiative, fostering steady and long-lasting relations between China and Slovakia, as well as between China and the European Union.

Xi affirmed China’s readiness to collaborate with Slovakia and other countries to address global challenges and uphold international fairness and justice. He also expressed hopes for Slovakia’s active role in promoting the continuous development of China-EU relations.

Prime Minister Fico highlighted deepening the Slovakia-China strategic partnership as a top priority in his country’s foreign policy. He reaffirmed Slovakia’s adherence to the one-China policy and its commitment to advancing friendly and mutually beneficial cooperation with China.

Fico expressed support for China’s major initiatives, such as building a community with a shared future for mankind, and appreciated China’s constructive role on issues like Ukraine and the Middle East. He emphasized Slovakia’s willingness to join China in upholding multilateralism, defending free trade rules, and maintaining the stability of global production and supply chains.

As both nations look to the future, their strengthened partnership signals a mutual dedication to fostering international cooperation and development.
