China Cracks Down on Smuggling of Strategic Minerals
China has launched a nationwide campaign to crack down on the smuggling and illegal export of its strategic mineral resources. The Ministry of Commerce made the announcement on Friday, highlighting efforts to protect national security and stabilize critical supply chains.
During a high-level meeting in Shenzhen, officials from several key agencies—including the Ministry of Commerce, the Ministry of Public Security, the Ministry of State Security, and the General Administration of Customs—gathered to discuss the initiative.
Authorities are stepping up efforts to detect and halt illegal activities related to strategic minerals. This includes reinforcing controls at the sources, enhancing coordination between departments, and targeting tactics like false declarations, concealment, and rerouting exports through third countries.
“Strengthening export controls on strategic mineral resources is vital to the Chinese mainland’s national security and development interests,” officials emphasized during the meeting.
