Chinese Vice Premier He Lifeng has called on China and the United States to find proper solutions to shared challenges and expand their cooperation. Speaking on Sunday during high-level meetings with U.S. Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent and U.S. Trade Representative Jamieson Greer, He emphasized the importance of mutual respect and win-win collaboration.
He Lifeng, the Chinese lead person for economic and trade affairs with the U.S., described the discussions as “in-depth, candid, and constructive.” The meetings focused on implementing the important consensus reached by the heads of state of the two countries earlier this year.
“China and the United States share extensive common interests and broad space for cooperation. Our economic and trade relations are mutually beneficial and win-win in nature,” He stated. He acknowledged that as two major countries with different development stages and economic systems, it is normal to have differences and frictions in economic and trade cooperation.
He stressed the need to find proper solutions based on principles of mutual respect, peaceful coexistence, and win-win cooperation. “There are no winners in a trade war,” he said, noting that while China does not desire a trade war, it is not afraid to respond if necessary. “If the U.S. side insists on infringing upon China’s rights and interests, China will resolutely retaliate and play along,” he added.
The vice premier urged both sides to explore more potential for collaboration, extend the list of cooperative projects, and promote continuous development of economic and trade relations. He highlighted that maintaining stable China-U.S. economic and trade relations aligns with the fundamental interests of both countries and contributes to global economic development.
The two sides agreed to establish an economic and trade consultation mechanism to maintain communication on their respective concerns in the economic and trade fields.
