China to Adjust Tariff Rates on Us Goods on May 14

China Slashes Tariffs on U.S. Goods in Major Trade Shift

In a significant move to ease trade tensions, China announced on Tuesday that it will substantially reduce additional tariffs on imported goods from the United States. Effective from 12:01 p.m. on Wednesday, the tariffs will drop from 34 percent to 10 percent, the Customs Tariff Commission of the State Council confirmed.

The commission also stated that the 24 percent tariff rate on U.S. goods will be paused for 90 days. These adjustments are part of the implementation of important agreements reached during recent high-level meetings between China and the United States over the weekend.

The termination of additional tariff measures outlined in Announcement No. 5 [2025] and Announcement No. 6 [2025] will coincide with these changes. This significant reduction aligns with the expectations of producers and consumers in both nations.

“This move is conducive to the economic and trade exchanges between China and the United States and beneficial to the global economy,” the commission stated.

The easing of tariffs marks a positive step in the ongoing trade relations between the two major economies, potentially paving the way for increased cooperation and mutual growth.
