China’s relay teams have clinched qualification in three additional relay events for the upcoming World Athletics Championships in Tokyo, set for September 2025. The Chinese athletes showcased remarkable performances at the World Athletics Relays held in Guangzhou, Guangdong Province, on Sunday.
In the women’s 4×400-meter relay, the team of Liang Baotang, Mo Jiadie, Zhang Qining, and Liu Yinglan secured third place with a new national record of 3:13.39. Liang led off with an impressive 44.91 seconds, handing over to Mo. Although Mo and Zhang faced stiff competition from Germany, Spain, and Jamaica, they kept pace just behind the leaders. In a thrilling finish, Liu overtook Jamaica’s Roneisha McGregor in the final leg to clinch the bronze and book their ticket to Tokyo.
China also shone in the women’s 4×100-meter relay. After Liang Xiaojing suffered an injury in Saturday’s race, Zhu Junying stepped in to join Chen Yujie, Li Yuting, and Ge Manqi. The new squad triumphed in their race, clocking a season-best of 43.03 seconds, and secured their place at the World Championships.
The men’s 4×100-meter relay team also earned qualification. With Shi Junhao and He Jinxian replacing Xie Zhenye and Chen Jiapeng, the team, which included Zeng Keli and Wang Shengjie, posted a season-best time of 38.03 seconds. Their impressive performance in Guangzhou ensured they will compete in Tokyo.
These achievements highlight the strength and depth of China’s track and field athletes as they prepare to take on the world’s best at the Tokyo 2025 World Athletics Championships.
