Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi Celebrates a Decade of China-CELAC Cooperation
On Tuesday, Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi highlighted the significant achievements of the China-CELAC Forum over the past ten years. Speaking at the fourth ministerial meeting held in Beijing, Wang emphasized how the forum has become a vital platform for equal dialogue and mutually beneficial cooperation between China and Latin American and Caribbean (LAC) countries.
“Over the past decade, we’ve injected new energy into building a China-LAC community with a shared future,” Wang said. “Our strategic mutual trust has deepened, practical cooperation has expanded, and friendly momentum continues to grow.”
Deepening Strategic Trust
Wang noted that high-level exchanges between China and LAC countries have strengthened, leading to a firm consensus on unity and development. This has ushered in a new stage of relations characterized by equality, mutual benefit, innovation, and openness, bringing tangible benefits to people on both sides.
Expanding Practical Cooperation
The foreign minister reported that over 80% of financing packages agreed upon have been implemented. Both China and LAC nations have actively promoted the alignment of the Belt and Road Initiative with the development strategies of LAC countries, fostering economic growth and infrastructure development across the region.
Growing Friendly Momentum
Wang also highlighted the successful implementation of projects announced by China, including government scholarships and training programs for young leaders from China and LAC countries. These initiatives have strengthened cultural and educational exchanges, fostering closer ties between the youth of both regions.
The China-CELAC Forum, established in 2014, serves as a key mechanism for dialogue and cooperation between China and the 33 countries of Latin America and the Caribbean. As the forum looks forward to the next decade, both sides are expected to continue building on this strong foundation to advance common development goals.
