Xi Jinping and Chile’s President Boric Boost Global South Collaboration

Chinese President Xi Jinping met with Chilean President Gabriel Boric in Beijing on Wednesday during the fourth ministerial meeting of the China-CELAC Forum. Celebrating 55 years of diplomatic relations, the two leaders discussed strengthening their comprehensive strategic partnership.

President Xi emphasized the importance of China and Chile working together to create a model of cooperation between China and Latin American countries. He called for increased collaboration in areas like agriculture, infrastructure, green minerals, and emerging fields such as artificial intelligence and digital economy.

“China supports more Chinese enterprises investing in Chile and welcomes more high-quality Chilean products into the Chinese market,” Xi said.

President Boric expressed his commitment to expanding cooperation with China, highlighting that China is Chile’s most important trading partner. “We are ready to advance high-quality Belt and Road cooperation and strengthen cultural exchanges,” Boric stated.

Both leaders agreed on the importance of free trade and multilateral collaboration to safeguard the interests of the Global South. They emphasized resolving differences through dialogue and upholding international fairness.

During the visit, China and Chile signed several cooperation documents in fields including economy, publishing, media, and think tanks, signaling a deepening relationship between the two nations.
