Chinese President Xi Jinping has extended his heartfelt congratulations to Jean-Lucien Savi de Tove on assuming the presidency of Togo. In a message shared on Wednesday, Xi emphasized the enduring friendship between China and Togo, highlighting over half a century of solidarity and cooperation.
President Xi noted that both nations have consistently embraced sincerity, equality, mutual trust, and win-win cooperation. He praised the strong support they’ve offered each other on matters of core interests and major concerns, citing their relationship as a model of unity and cooperation in the Global South.
Earlier this year, during the 2024 Summit of the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation (FOCAC) held in Beijing, China and Togo elevated their bilateral relations to a comprehensive strategic partnership. President Xi expressed his commitment to working closely with Togo’s leaders to implement the outcomes of the FOCAC Beijing Summit. He aims to deepen traditional friendship, expand cooperation across various fields, and enhance the comprehensive strategic partnership for the benefit of both peoples.
In addition, Chinese Premier Li Qiang sent a congratulatory message to Faure Gnassingbe on his new role as the president of Togo’s Council of Ministers. This gesture signifies the strengthening ties and mutual respect between the two nations.
