The recent King Pro League (KPL) Spring 2025 finals witnessed an unprecedented demand, with tickets selling out in just two minutes. Over 80% of the attendees traveled from other cities, showcasing the nationwide appeal of esports tournaments.

Huang Cheng, head of the King of Glory Professional League, highlighted this booming interest in Chinese esports culture. “We’re seeing a remarkable fusion of digital entertainment and urban tourism,” he remarked. “Esports fans are not just coming for the games; they’re immersing themselves in the cities’ landmarks, cuisine, and culture.”

Beyond the arenas, cities hosting esports events are experiencing a consumption boom. Young enthusiasts engage in city-wide activities, from visiting iconic landmarks and savoring local delicacies to indulging in merchandise shopping sprees. This trend is blending digital culture with traditional tourism, injecting new vitality into local economies.

The international stage is also embracing Chinese esports. The upcoming 2025 Esports World Cup in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, will feature top global teams competing in popular games like Honor of Kings, League of Legends, and Street Fighter. “Events like these open doors for cross-cultural exchange,” Huang noted. “From the Hangzhou Asian Games to the 2027 Esports Olympics in Saudi Arabia, esports is becoming a global bridge connecting young people worldwide.”

As esports continues to thrive, its impact extends beyond entertainment. It is reshaping tourism, fostering international connections, and propelling economic growth in China’s digital era.
