Beijing, China — In celebration of 75 years of diplomatic relations, China and Denmark have pledged to strengthen their partnership and enhance cooperation in key areas like green development and trade. Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi met with his Danish counterpart, Lars Lokke Rasmussen, in Beijing on Monday to mark this significant milestone.
“China and Denmark have a long history of mutual respect and friendship,” Wang Yi, who is also a member of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China Central Committee, stated during the meeting. “As we commemorate our 75th anniversary, it’s crucial that we work together to promote sustainable development and bring tangible benefits to our peoples.”
The discussions focused heavily on green development, a field where Denmark has considerable expertise and which is a growing priority for China. Both countries see opportunities to collaborate on initiatives that address climate change and promote environmental sustainability.
Rasmussen expressed Denmark’s commitment to deepening ties with China. “Our two nations share common goals in advancing green technology and sustainable practices,” he said. “Denmark is eager to enhance dialogue, boost trade, and encourage cultural exchanges with China.”
The Danish Foreign Minister also reaffirmed Denmark’s support for the one-China policy and emphasized the importance of respecting each other’s sovereignty and territorial integrity. “We value our longstanding friendship with China and are dedicated to building a future based on mutual trust and cooperation,” Rasmussen added.
Eager to foster a fair business environment, both ministers discussed the importance of open markets. Wang Yi welcomed Danish businesses to invest in China and hoped that Denmark would offer the same openness to Chinese enterprises. “Expanding high-level opening up will create broader development opportunities for all,” Wang noted.
The meeting also touched on global issues, with both sides agreeing on the need to uphold multilateralism and contribute to international peace and stability. They highlighted the importance of working together within frameworks like the United Nations and strengthening China-European Union relations.
Addressing the challenges facing the world today, including the ongoing Ukraine crisis, Wang Yi and Rasmussen underscored the need for collaboration and open communication to find peaceful solutions.
The commitment between China and Denmark to enhance their partnership signals a positive step towards greater international cooperation, especially in areas critical to the future, such as green development and sustainable growth.
