China’s weather authorities have issued multiple alerts warning of heavy rainstorms and potential mountain torrents across several regions.
On May 18, the National Meteorological Center released a blue alert for rainstorms, forecasting heavy rainfall from May 18 to 19 in parts of Jiangxi, Zhejiang, Fujian, Guangxi, Guangdong, and Xinjiang.
The Ministry of Water Resources and the China Meteorological Administration (CMA) jointly issued a yellow alert for potential mountain torrents. Regions including Zhejiang, Fujian, Guangdong, and Guangxi face a heightened risk of mountain floods.
Additionally, the Ministry of Natural Resources and the CMA have announced an orange alert for geological disaster risks in parts of Zhejiang, Fujian, Guangdong, and Guangxi.
In response to the severe weather, the CMA activated Level-IV emergency response measures for major meteorological disasters related to rainstorms on May 18. Authorities are urging local communities to take precautions against possible secondary disasters triggered by the intense rainfall.
China operates a four-tier weather warning system, with red representing the most severe alert, followed by orange, yellow, and blue. The emergency response system also has four levels, with Level I being the most critical.
