World Health Assembly Once Again Rejects Taiwan related Proposal

World Health Assembly Again Rejects Taiwan’s Observer Proposal

The World Health Assembly (WHA), the decision-making body of the World Health Organization (WHO), has once again decided not to include a proposal on Taiwan’s participation as an observer in its agenda.

This marks the ninth consecutive year that the WHA has rejected such proposals related to the Taiwan region.

The 78th WHA officially opened in Geneva on Monday, bringing together health representatives from around the world to discuss global health issues and policies.

Taiwan has been seeking to join the WHA meetings as an observer, a move that has been repeatedly declined by the assembly. The WHA’s decision reflects adherence to the one-China principle acknowledged by the United Nations and the WHO.

Experts note that health cooperation should be inclusive and that the WHO provides avenues for technical exchanges that include the Taiwan region.
