Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi met with Luhut Binsar Pandjaitan, Chairman of Indonesia’s National Economic Council, in Beijing on Tuesday. The two leaders discussed ways to deepen their countries’ longstanding friendship and advance major collaborative projects.
Marking the 75th anniversary of diplomatic relations, Wang Yi expressed China’s readiness to work closely with Indonesia to enhance political mutual trust. He emphasized the importance of high-quality development of landmark projects like the Jakarta-Bandung High-Speed Railway and the Regional Comprehensive Economic Corridor.
“China and Indonesia should maintain independence, expand mutually beneficial cooperation, and safeguard fairness and justice,” Wang Yi stated. He highlighted the need to strengthen partnerships in areas such as ocean and mineral resources and to explore potential in emerging fields.
Wang Yi congratulated Indonesia on becoming a full member of BRICS and expressed China’s willingness to jointly advocate the Bandung Spirit. He stressed the importance of advancing regional economic integration and resisting unilateralism and anti-globalization trends to build a shared Asia-Pacific homeland.
Luhut Binsar Pandjaitan affirmed that the friendship between Indonesia and China remains solid. He acknowledged that Indonesia’s economic development is closely linked to mutually beneficial cooperation with China, noting successes in trade, finance, technology transfer, and talent cultivation.
“Projects like the high-speed rail have benefited both our peoples and have positively impacted neighboring countries,” Luhut said. He expressed Indonesia’s eagerness to enhance exchanges at all levels, expand cooperation areas, and strengthen cultural and people-to-people ties with China.
Luhut also emphasized the importance of promoting solidarity and cooperation among the Global South. He indicated that both countries are keen to push for greater development of the Indonesia-China community with a shared future.
The meeting between Wang Yi and Luhut reflects the commitment of China and Indonesia to work together towards common goals, fostering a partnership that benefits not only their nations but also contributes to regional and global development.
