Chinese President Xi Jinping on Tuesday sent a heartfelt congratulatory letter to the 2025 Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) Forum on Poverty Reduction and Sustainable Development, which opened in Xi’an, northwest China’s Shaanxi Province.
President Xi highlighted that eradicating poverty is a shared aspiration of all nations. He emphasized China’s significant strides in poverty alleviation, stating, “Through arduous efforts, China has won the battle against poverty, achieved the poverty reduction target of the United Nations 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development ten years ahead of schedule, and blazed a poverty reduction path with Chinese characteristics.”
He pointed out that insufficient development is the root cause of poverty and commended the SCO’s active role in promoting poverty reduction and sustainable development in recent years, noting the remarkable results achieved through cooperation.
As the rotating chair of the SCO, China is committed to enhancing policy communication with all member countries, sharing experiences in poverty reduction, and deepening practical cooperation. President Xi expressed China’s willingness to help more nations explore poverty reduction and sustainable development paths that suit their national conditions. He called for joint efforts to build a world free from poverty and to achieve common prosperity.
The forum, themed “Sustained Poverty Reduction and Cooperative Development: Advancing Poverty Alleviation and Sustainable Development among SCO Countries,” brings together representatives from member states to discuss strategies and share insights on combating poverty and promoting sustainable growth.
