Beijing, China — In a significant move towards regional stability, foreign ministers from China, Afghanistan, and Pakistan met in Beijing on Wednesday to strengthen trilateral cooperation. The meeting, chaired by Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi, focused on enhancing political trust, deepening economic ties, and combating terrorism.
Wang Yi was joined by Pakistani Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Mohammad Ishaq Dar and Afghan Acting Foreign Minister Amir Khan Muttaqi. The leaders engaged in friendly and in-depth discussions, highlighting the potential of their trilateral partnership.
“China supports Afghanistan and Pakistan in pursuing development paths suited to their national conditions,” Wang Yi stated. He emphasized the importance of safeguarding sovereignty, security, and national dignity, and called for upholding good-neighborliness and friendship.
The ministers agreed on several key points:
Strengthening Diplomatic Relations: Afghanistan and Pakistan expressed willingness to elevate diplomatic ties and agreed in principle to exchange ambassadors soon. China welcomed this development and pledged support in improving relations between the two nations.
Enhancing Economic Cooperation: The three countries committed to deepening cooperation under the Belt and Road Initiative. Plans include extending the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor into Afghanistan and enhancing regional connectivity networks.
Supporting Afghanistan’s Development: China and Pakistan expressed readiness to assist in Afghanistan’s reconstruction efforts. They aim to expand trade exchanges and help Afghanistan build its capacity for sustainable development.
Combating Terrorism: The leaders agreed to oppose all forms of terrorism and enhance law enforcement and security cooperation. They pledged to jointly combat terrorist forces and remain vigilant against external interference in regional affairs.
Promoting Regional Stability: Emphasizing the importance of peace, the ministers vowed to create a favorable environment for the development and revitalization of their countries.
The meeting also underscored the role of the China-Afghanistan-Pakistan Foreign Ministers’ Dialogue mechanism. The ministers aim to convene the sixth dialogue in Kabul at an early date to continue fostering collaboration.
This trilateral engagement signals a growing commitment among the three nations to work together for mutual benefit, regional stability, and prosperity.
