In a move to foster better relations, Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi has called on China and the United States to initiate positive interactions in the Asia-Pacific region. Speaking in Beijing on Tuesday, Wang emphasized the importance of establishing a correct path for mutual cooperation and finding effective channels for a win-win partnership between the two nations.
Wang Yi, who is also a member of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China Central Committee, made these remarks during his meeting with Kyung-wha Kang, President of the Asia Society. He highlighted recent progress made during high-level economic and trade meetings between China and the United States, noting that these developments demonstrate that equal dialogue and mutual respect serve the common interests of both countries.
“Equal dialogue, mutual respect, and properly addressing each other’s legitimate concerns align with the shared interests of China and the United States,” Wang stated. However, he also pointed out that the United States has continued actions that hinder China’s legitimate development rights, expressing strong opposition to what he described as unilateral bullying.
Kyung-wha Kang acknowledged the rich cultural heritage of China and expressed the Asia Society’s commitment to continue sharing fact-based and objective insights about the country. She emphasized the importance of building dialogue platforms to eliminate misunderstandings and promote mutual understanding between China and the United States.
“We are willing to work with visionary individuals in the United States to foster dialogue, reduce misunderstandings, and enhance mutual understanding,” Kang said.
The meeting underlines ongoing efforts by both Chinese officials and international organizations to improve China-U.S. relations, particularly in the Asia-Pacific region, which is of strategic importance to both nations.
