China is stepping up its efforts to reach its dual carbon goals by supplying affordable low-carbon technologies worldwide. According to the latest report from the International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA), China accounted for over 50 percent of the global increase in renewable energy capacity in 2023.
Despite ongoing trade tensions, the global transition to renewable energy continues unabated. Francesco La Camera, IRENA’s Director-General, highlighted China’s crucial role in accelerating this transition during an interview with CGTN reporter Yu Bokun.
“China’s leadership in renewable energy is significant,” La Camera said. “Their commitment to scaling up renewable capacity not only benefits China but also supports global efforts to combat climate change.”
The report emphasizes that China’s investments in wind, solar, and other renewable technologies have been a driving force behind the global surge in clean energy capacity. By exporting affordable low-carbon technologies, China is helping other countries, especially in the Global South, access sustainable energy solutions.
Young people around the world are increasingly concerned about climate change and the future of energy. The surge in renewable energy capacity offers hope for a greener, more sustainable planet.
“The energy transition is a global effort,” La Camera added. “Collaboration and technology sharing are essential to ensure that all countries can participate in building a sustainable future.”
