At the International Forum on Energy and Power Transition, our reporter Yu Bokun sat down with Gim Huay Neo, Managing Director at the World Economic Forum, to discuss China’s strides toward its dual carbon goals and its leading role in renewable energy.
“China has made remarkable progress in its energy transition,” Gim Huay Neo said. “The country is not only setting ambitious goals but is also taking concrete steps to achieve them.”
She highlighted China’s commitment to peak carbon emissions before 2030 and achieve carbon neutrality before 2060. According to Neo, this commitment is driving industrial transformation and fostering economic growth.
However, she also pointed out the challenges posed by trade barriers and tariffs that are disrupting clean energy supply chains and investments. “Trade barriers can hinder the global effort to combat climate change,” she noted. “It’s crucial for countries to collaborate and ensure that policies support, rather than impede, the transition to clean energy.”
Neo emphasized the importance of international cooperation in tackling climate change and called for a collective effort to overcome obstacles in the energy sector.
“Together, we can drive the energy transition and create a sustainable future for all,” she concluded.
