In a significant move to strengthen international collaboration, Chinese President Xi Jinping and French President Emmanuel Macron engaged in a telephone conversation on Thursday. The two leaders discussed enhancing China-France relations, fortifying China-Europe cooperation, and addressing major global and regional issues of mutual concern.
President Xi emphasized the importance of maintaining high-level exchanges and strategic communication between China and France. He highlighted the need to deepen cooperation in traditional sectors like investment, aerospace, and nuclear energy, while also exploring new opportunities in emerging fields such as the digital economy, green development, biopharmaceuticals, and the silver economy.
“China and France should seize opportunities and expand cooperation to bring benefits to both nations and contribute positively to the world,” Xi stated.
He also underscored the value of people-to-people exchanges in fostering mutual understanding and friendship between the two countries.
Marking the 80th anniversary of the victory in the World Anti-Fascist War and the founding of the United Nations, Xi noted that China and France, as permanent members of the UN Security Council and independent major countries, play vital roles in upholding the post-war international order.
“The more complex the international landscape becomes, the more essential it is for China and France to make correct strategic choices and act as reliable forces for safeguarding international order,” he said.
President Macron reaffirmed France’s commitment to the one-China principle, stating that this position remains firm regardless of international developments. He expressed France’s desire to deepen practical cooperation with China in economy, trade, and investment, aiming to maintain strong momentum in bilateral relations.
“France is ready to strengthen communication and coordination with China on major international issues,” Macron affirmed. “Together, we can fulfill our responsibilities as permanent members of the UN Security Council.”
Both leaders agreed on the necessity to prevent the escalation of regional conflicts and stressed joint efforts to safeguard peace and stability globally. They exchanged views on critical issues such as the Ukraine crisis, the Palestine-Israel conflict, and the Iranian nuclear matter.
Concluding their conversation, Xi and Macron reiterated their commitment to collaborate closely, enhance dialogue, and protect shared interests, contributing to global stability and development.
