China is stepping up its collaboration with member countries of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) to combat poverty and promote sustainable development. Since assuming the rotating presidency of the SCO, China has hosted a series of events focusing on the SCO Year of Sustainable Development.
Speaking at a regular press briefing on Thursday, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Mao Ning highlighted the recent 2025 SCO Forum on Poverty Reduction and Sustainable Development. She noted that Chinese President Xi Jinping sent a congratulatory letter to the forum, emphasizing China’s commitment to sharing its experience in poverty alleviation.
“China is ready to strengthen policy communication with all parties, share poverty reduction experience, deepen practical cooperation, and support more countries in exploring development paths suited to their national conditions,” Mao Ning stated.
The representatives from SCO countries warmly received President Xi’s letter, viewing it as a reflection of the high importance he places on poverty alleviation and sustainable development. They expressed hope to deepen exchanges and mutual learning among SCO members and build a community with a shared future.
The SCO, comprising countries across Eurasia, plays a crucial role in regional cooperation. China’s initiatives aim to foster stronger ties and collective efforts to improve living standards and promote economic growth throughout the region.
