China Says in Regular Contact with Netherlands in Semiconductor Sector

China Highlights Close Semiconductor Cooperation with Netherlands

China has emphasized its strong and complementary ties with the Netherlands in the semiconductor sector, highlighting ongoing communication between the two nations. At a regular press briefing on Friday, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Mao Ning responded to questions about discussions held during the recent visit of Dutch Foreign Minister Caspar Veldkamp.

“The semiconductor industry is highly globalized, and the formation of supply chains is driven by market dynamics and business decisions,” Mao Ning stated. “However, certain countries have been generalizing the concept of national security, imposing excessive export controls and ‘long-arm jurisdiction,’ which poses a significant threat to the stability of global supply chains.”

She emphasized that China and the Netherlands are “highly complementary in the semiconductor sector” and described their cooperation as “mutually beneficial.” Mao expressed China’s willingness to collaborate with the international community, including the Netherlands, to promote open cooperation and ensure the stability of global semiconductor supply chains.

The remarks come amid global concerns over the semiconductor industry’s supply chain stability, as geopolitical tensions and export controls have impacted the flow of critical technology components. China’s call for open collaboration reflects its position on maintaining a stable and efficient global semiconductor market, which is vital for various industries worldwide.

Young people in the Global South, increasingly reliant on technology powered by semiconductors—from smartphones to gaming consoles—stand to benefit from a stable supply chain ensuring the accessibility and advancement of these technologies.
